Irish bread pudding

Description

Bread pudding is always a favorite with children. Irish bread pudding may remind you of the British bread and butter pudding minus the butter.

Ingredients

8 sli
bread (stale, about 1/3 loaf, in coarse crumbs)
8  
eggs
1 c
sugar
1 T
lemon zest (grated)
4 c
milk
1 T
butter (to dot the top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375° F (180° C).
  2. Break the bread up into bite size portions. Place them into a 9 x 9 x 2 inches pan.
  3. Beat the eggs and sugar together. Add the zest and cold milk and pour over the bread.
  4. Dot with butter then bake in a 375°F oven until the mix is custard set, about 30 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle with the lemon juice, cherries and strawberries, if used.
