Penedes, one of Spain's oldest wine-producing areas, is creating its own new-style reds, together with their more traditional roses and dessert wines. Penedes is also famous for cava, a sparkling wine made by Champagne traditional method, usually from a blend of three native grapes: Perellada, Macabeo and Xarel-lo, though some others are also allowed.
