Talking about the wines you like in your own words.
Wine in Argentina
Tasting notes.
2006 Organic Sauvignon Blanc & Torrontes, Famantina Valley, Argentina
Sauvignon Blanc, Torrontes blend
Tasting notes: On the label is described as dry, crisp, and fruity. I endorse crisp and fruity, it was indeed full of fruity flavors. It was not as dry as the label had led me to expect; I found it slightly on the sweet side but more pleasant for it. (Kevin, UK, 8 January, 2007)
2005 Vino Reserva, Finca Flichman, Mendoza, Argentina
Malbec grapes
Tasting notes: We are not experts so I refer to the label: aged six months in oak and further ageing in the bottle. Drink 16-18° C. Aromas of plums and strawberries, soft tannins and lingering finish.
Very good quality red wine We bought in a hurry –grabbed the first bottle of red wine on the shelf- and we were not expecting much but it surprised us. Very subtle aroma and soft, extra smooth taste; it has a long finish without none of the harsh aftertaste other red wines leave behind. It looses a bit of smoothness if left opened for very long. Wine in Australia
Tasting notes
2005 Penfolds Koonunga Hill, South Australia
Chardonnay
Fruity white wine with the rich style characteristic to Penfolds wines. You can taste the fruit and smell the oak.
Tasting notes: On site tasting and it drinks nicely. On the sale, so I got some. (Kevin, UK, 17 January, 2007)
2005 Tintara Horseshoe Row, South Australia
Chardonnay
This is a deep and intense, without being overbearing, red wine. Its taste has hints of clove and a eucalyptus finish.
Tasting notes: I am expecting to taste the mild climate from the place it was made in this wine. That's what I looking for in the middle of winter, a taste of spring.. (Kevin, UK, 20 January, 2007)
2005 Tintara Horseshoe Row, South Australia
Shiraz
Pleasant white wine with a taste of ripe tropical fruit and oak scent.
Tasting notes:From the Tintara McLaren Vale winery. They have better wines, but this one is nice and I was looking for bargains.(Kevin, UK, 20 January, 2007)
2004 Penfolds Koonunga Hill, South Australia
Shiraz and Cabernet blend
A red wine full of sweet fruity currants and spice with well blended tannins.
Tasting notes: Offered but not tasted after the white wine. Also on sale. (Kevin, UK, 17 January, 2007
2003 Henry's Drive Padthaway Shiraz, South Australia
Shiraz
A complex red wine with plenty of aromas to reach your nose and equally lurid flavors, count everything from blackberries to oak with earthy aromas and licorice taste. Not the average wine, with the potential to age very well reaching more balance between and fruit and mature flavors.
Tasting notes: Friends opened a bottle to show. Very good wine, but apparently it will get much, much better with time. I thought it was good enough so I hope I will be invited to try it again then because it is difficult to find. (Kevin, UK, 17 January, 2007)
Wines in Italy
Tasting notes.
2005 Canaletto Pinot Grigio-Garganega, Veneto, Italy
Fresh and aromatic white wine with lovely lemon accents and 12% alcohol.
Tasting notes: Light and refreshing enough to serve as an aperitif. It would be a perfect company for a creamy fish soup, fish dishes, especially oily fish, and some white meats. (Kevin, UK, 16 January, 2007)
2003 Canaletto Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Italy
Tannic red wine. You can definitly taste the oak and some spice. It has 13% alcohol.
Tasting notes: Very well suted to warm winter dishes. Goes well with meat stews and especially well with Italian pastas with a meat sauce, pepperoni pizzas or other Italian meat dishes. (Kevin, UK, 16 January, 2007)
Wine in U.S.A.
2004 La Crema Pinot Noir, Sonoma, California, USA
Pinot Noir
This Pinot Noir is stylish and brings to your palate plenty of fruit taste, plums with a smoky background.
Tasting notes: Sonoma pinot noirs have more weight than their counterparts in the Old World of wine. Definitely can taste the plums. (Kevin, UK, 25 January, 2007)
2004 Bonterra Vineyards Chardonnay, Mendocino, California, USA
Chardonnay
Bonterra Chardonnay has achieved an international style. The aging in oak is shortened, calling attention to the juiciness and crispness the fruit delivers.
Tasting notes: White organic wine, not the best in the organic range but delivering plenty of citrus and melon flavors. It is well worth a try. (Kevin, UK, 25 January, 2007)
