Eton mess
Description
Eton mess consists of crushed meringue, strawberries and cream. It is very easy to prepare.
Ingredients
2 Cup strawberries (washed and hulled) 1 Tablespoon sugar 1 Cup whipping cream 2 Teaspoon confectioners sugar 3 Drop vanilla essence 4 meringue nests (broken into pieces)
Instructions
- Halve strawberries - quarter them if large - mix with sugar and chill for 30 minutes.
- Whip cream until thickened, add confectioner sugar and vanilla essence and blend.
- Place strawberries, whipped cream and meringue pieces in a bowl, stir lightly and serve straight away.
Notes
Strawberries are the traditional fruit for Eton mess, but you can substitute strawberries with other berries or summer fruit.
Eton College, the boys boarding school in England, is the origin of this recipe. Eton mess was served during their annual cricket game against Winchester College.
